DAY 1 – KILIMANJARO AIRPORT TO ARUSHA
On arrival in Kilimanjaro Airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel by an Landside Adventures representative. There will be a trip briefing at the hotel/Lodge this evening. The rest of the day will be at your leisure. Please note this is an arrival day and there are no excursions planned, so you may arrive at any time.
DAY 2 – ARUSHA TO SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked up by your driver guide to depart for your safari. There is no bad time to visit the Serengeti as every season has its own special highlight – even the rainy season has the daily thunder and lightning to look forward to. Changing seasons and light patterns form the most beautiful backdrop to view Africa’s majestic and incredible wildlife.
DAY 3 – FULL DAY IN SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast game viewing drives along the Sogore River Circuit, which loops into the plains south of the Seronera River, and which is good for possible Lion, Thomson gazelle, topi, ostrich and cheetah sightings.
The Visitor Centre close to the Serengeti Seronera Lodge and public campsites is well worth a visit after the morning’s game drive. This nicely designed centre offers some interesting wildlife displays as well as a gift shop selling information leaflets and maps of the area. The centre also has a shop where cold drinks and snacks can be purchased, as well as a picnic area and information trail up and around a nearby kopje. We will enjoy a relaxed picnic lunch at the centre in the shade of the giant acacia trees.
In the afternoon we will follow the Kopjes Circuit, which goes anti-clockwise around the Maasai Kopjes, which usually attract a number of lion and some formidably large cobras. Kopjes are weathered granite outcrops, scattered around the plains, most of which are miniature ecosystems, providing shade and drinking water in pools left in the rock after the rains. This makes the kopjes particularly good for spotting wildlife in the dry seasons – including lions, which like to lie in wait for animals coming to drink!
Accommodation: Serengeti Public Campsite
Meals included: Dinner, Breakfast, Lunch
DAY 4 – SERENGETI TO NGORONGORO CRATER RIM
Enjoy morning game drive in central and southern Serengeti then drive toward Ngorongoro Crater rim via the Olduvai area. You can visit a Maasai Village in the Olduvai area. (Optional activity: fees extra.) The Maasai people who inhabit Kenya and northern Tanzania are semi-nomadic. Traditionally, they were pastoralists famous for their fearsome reputations as warriors and cattle-rustlers. You can spend some time interacting with the villagers and learn about their lifestyle and culture.
In the late afternoon, proceed to your camp located on the crater rim for relaxation and overnight stay. The world-famous Ngorongoro Crater is at the eastern edge of the Serengeti in northern Tanzania. Nearly three million years old, the ancient caldera of the once-volcanic Ngorongoro shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth, ringed with towering walls and sheltering forests, grasslands, fresh springs etc.
DAY 5 – NGORONGORO CRATER TO ARUSHA
Leave very early in the morning for game viewing in Ngorongoro Crater. Descend into the Ngorongoro caldera to view the wildlife on the crater floor. The Ngorongoro Crater is often called “Africa’s Eden” and the “8th Natural Wonder of the World”.
A massive extinct volcano, the sheet walls drop thousands of feet to a “Noah’s Ark” of animals on the verdant floor below. Large herds of zebra, buffalo, antelope and wildebeest graze nearby while sleeping lions laze in the sun. At dawn, the endangered black rhino returns to the thick cover of the crater forests after grazing on dew-laden grass in the morning mist. Leave the crater late afternoon and drive back to Arusha for departure.
After lunch leaves the crater drive back to Arusha for departure.
