Spice,City & Prison Island Tour -Full day excursion

The Tour starts with Spice tour In The Spice Island of Zanzibar. This tour is a walking tour in a spice farm (shamba). While there, you shall see how the spices, herbs and fruits grow and are cultivated. Your tour guide will describe how the crops can be used. You will be smelling and tasting spices, herbs and tropical fruits such as clove, lemongrass, nutmeg, cinnamon, turmeric, vanilla, coconuts, papaya, chili, black pepper, jackfruit, cardamom, cassava and oranges. After the tour you will enjoy a traditional swahili lunch at the farm. Here is when you can really taste the different ways of using spices. On request we can also take you to an essential oil distillery where you can also create your own fragrance! The tour finishes with a stop at a spice stall selling fresh packaged spices (cash only). The tour price already includes tips for farm workers, so you don’t need to worry about it.

Our City tour will start at this point, where we will turn to the old city and cultural heart of Zanzibar- The Stone Town This is a walking tour that takes you through fabled Stone Town, where history appears to stand still. With visits to the House of Wonders,the former slave market for East African Slave trade, and the Arab Fort amongst others, it is a fascinating look at the essence of Zanzibar.The architectural style of Stone town buildings is a unique mixture of various influences and culture. You will see Zanzibar’s bustling market, winding alleyways, ornately carved and studded doors, two cathedrals and countless mosques! Stone Town has some excellent gifts shops with plenty of souvenirs and handicrafts to choose from. A guided walk through this colorful and alternating city with tour knowledgeable tour guides, who knows not only funny of Stone town, but also cruel stories to tell about life of the old times in Stone town. This is a walking tour and takes almost 3 hrs of walking in the narrow streets.
This package will end with Prison island Tour just 30 minutes by Boat. In this tour you will; Visit Lloyd Mathew’s Architecture In 1893, Lloyd Mathews built the prison. The prison idea was to send violent criminals from the Tanganyika mainland to the Prison Island. The Prison Island ended up being used as a quarantine center, instead of a prison, for yellow fever epidemics that once raged through the region. Prison Island remained in the ownership of the government which converted the newer quarantine buildings into a guest house. See The Giant Tortoises The old prison still remains standing, providing shelter for some of the giant tortoises which can now only be found on this island, and the cells. Snorkeling After the tour there’s a snorkeling option for those who’d like to get wet. All part of the budget by default.
